| The first annual Celtic Harvest Festival Sedona “A
Celebration of the Changing Light” was held on September 19, 2009. The
festival was planned in the season of the Autumnal Equinox. Organizers
included local residents, business people and the President of the Welsh League of Arizona,
John Good (the festival's Cultural Director). Local community school
children benefited from free Celtic workshops including music and
dance, as an educational adjunct to the main event on Saturday the
19th. The students also danced at the festival. In 2010, the festival grew to two days of Celtic Arts in Education in three schools and established the relationships with educators that created memorable arts experiences in the classrooms and on the festival stage. Our goal of opening doors to the Celtic arts in education and the community was joyfully achieved with more to come in 2011! The Celtic Harvest Festival Sedona emphasizes our rich Celtic heritage. As John Good explained, “The Sedona festival will showcase all the Celtic Nations, gathering at the Tequa Festival Marketplace.” We draw from the deep Celtic well to provide a full day of beautiful music, spirited dancing, gorgeous poetry, moving stories, crafts, medicinal herbs and delicious foods. Oh yes! There are always activities for young Celts in their own special area. Come join us in 2011 and experience the joyous Celtic Arts with us! Festival Director Dorothy O’Brien stated, “Our goals are to celebrate the Celtic Arts through educational workshops designed for children of all ages and cultures! And to stimulate commerce in the Village and greater Sedona area! Our greater Sedona area is host to millions of visitors and our residents have a great desire to provide interesting, cultural activities that enrich and enlighten themselves and our guests. Arizona is home to some of the finest musicians and dancers, poets and storytellers of Celtic origin. What a privilege to showcase this rich heritage right here in Sedona!” Learn more about Celtic Culture. |

| The
arts transcend any particular culture. And Celtic Arts; music, dance,
piping and storytelling, have been described as “accessible, inspiring
and joyous.” As funding for the Arts is stripped from classrooms,
these Educational Partners make it possible for the Celtic Harvest Festival to
explore Celtic arts in the schools, providing a foundation for the
understanding of creative expression around the world.
Storytelling, music, dance, and literature unite people regardless of
their history or heritage. The Celtic Harvest Festival celebrates
Celtic Arts in the schools as a means to inspire the process of
building creativity and a sense of global community in our children. |
